Overview of the Internships 

We have multiple Documentary Production internship opportunities available. By applying to this posting, you will be considered for multiple internship opportunities within this general area. These internships will be located in the NYC area. The selected interns will be expected to join us in the office on a regular cadence based on the intern manager’s in office schedule.

Your Role Accountabilities 

CNN Doc:

  • Gathering video
  • Preparing, and organizing interviews for transcription
  • Organizing visual elements
  • Basic story research and fact-checking\

HBO Doc:

  • Seeking a dynamic, motivated, and detail-oriented intern to join our documentary programming team. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience doing research, writing coverage, and drafting decks & loglines, including a special semester-long development initiative.• Screening and writing coverage for documentary films• Experience pitch meetings first-hand• Support the department in administration upkeep by maintaining the organization of departmental tracking systems• Research and various projects including a semester-long development project• Assist the Production Executives with their creative needs• Learn how to build pitch decks, write loglines and show descriptions• Organize and track internal and external ideas in all phases of development• Present a series ideas for their intern project• Gain hands-on experience to learn what it’s truly like to work in production & programming• Strong interest in documentaries• Spreadsheet and analytical skills• Strong attention to detail• Willing to work with a team and independently• Familiarity with Google Suite, Microsoft• Familiarity with MS Excel and PowerPoint skills• Good written and verbal communication skills• Ability to work under pressure, multitask and prioritize deliverables/projects with competing deadlines

Qualifications & Experience 

Essentials needed for the positions that are similar across the above roles (these do not all have to apply to every single role)  

  • Previous experience in long-form journalism
  • Be able to function well in fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong interest in documentaries
  • Spreadsheet and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Willing to work with a team and independently
  • Familiarity with Google Suite, Microsoft
  • Familiarity with MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and prioritize deliverables/projects with competing deadlines
  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment required)  
  • Must be a rising, Junior or Senior Undergraduate Student (18 years or older)  
  • Must be in academic good standing (3.0 or above cumulative GPA) A transcript will be required to verify your GPA if an offer is extended.

    • Interns will be expected to work 16-24 hours per week in a hybrid capacity 
    • Our internships are paid opportunities with a competitive hourly wage. Credit is not required; however, we will provide the necessary documentation for school credit if desired. Relocation is not provided.

Talcott’s Summer Internship Program: Communication Intern

Talcott’s Summer Internship Program is designed to provide students with a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to deeply immerse themselves in real-life business challenges! As part of this ten-week fast-paced summer program, students work side by side with our industry. Our internship opportunity shall be a weekly hybrid onsite work arrangement in our contemporary Hartford, Connecticut campus on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Throughout this experience, students will dive into business assignments that shall expand their technical expertise, business knowledge and leadership skills. In addition to hands-on learning, Talcott’s internship program offers an extensive calendar of enrichment activities to support a student’s personal growth! The Communications Summer Intern will work closely with various members of the communications team. Additionally, they will partner with employees across the enterprise to deliver best-in-class communications that keep stakeholders engaged and informed.

Responsibilities

  • Support internal and external corporate communication messaging
  • Create written and digital marketing materials to support employee engagement
  • Leverage social media for branding with Talcott events
  • Maintain and/or update our SharePoint employee intranet site
  • Draft and proofread employee communications
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as required

Qualifications:

  • Our preferred candidate is an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or a similar field
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately proofread and edit corporate documents with strong attention to grammar
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Additional experience with MS SharePoint or photo editing is a plus!
  • Strong knowledge of LinkedIn and other social media platforms
  • Basic understanding of data analytics, click through rates, visits, etc.
  • Strong ability to process instructions and move quickly to executing on tasks
  • Effectively asks questions to gain clarity on assigned tasks
