We-Ha.com

We-ha.com is looking for an intern who is interested in education reporting to cover West Hartford Board of Education meetings and other school-related topics.

Intern responsibilities would include:

  • Attending Board of Education meetings which are generally held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at West Hartford Town Hall, beginning at 7 p.m. The meetings are also streamed via YouTube so it would be possible in some cases to watch the meetings remotely.
  • Reporting on pertinent matters being discussed by the Board of Education. Critical issues (as advised by Managing Editor Ronni Newton) would require reporting immediately after the end of the meeting, while other reports could be made by the end of the week.
  • Interacting with and developing working relationships with the superintendent of schools and assistant superintendents and Board of Education chair and vice chair.
  • Connecting with principals at the town’s public schools.
  • Writing and photographing various school-related events. Coverage of sports is not required.
  • Stories will be posted in WordPress in draft form, and will be edited by and published by Managing Editor Ronni Newton.
  • Each story must include at least one photograph or image which should be uploaded directly to WordPress as jpeg/jpg or png files. Cellphone photos are acceptable as long as an image is high enough resolution.
