Media Podcast Internship

Overview:

Van Buren Media, LLC is seeking a dynamic, media-savvy student with an interest in journalism, communications, or public affairs to co-host and assist in producing a podcast (audio and video) focused on politics, public policy, government, and media. The show will highlight the views, experiences, and problems of young people and their intersection with government, the media, and local power. This is an exciting opportunity for a student looking to gain hands-on experience in podcasting, interviewing, and media production while building a portfolio of work.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Co-host podcast episodes alongside Tyler Van Buren, owner of Van Buren Media, engaging in discussions on current events and politics, and interviewing guests.
  • Brainstorm content ideas for future episodes, potential guests, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Conduct research on guests, topics, and trends to ensure informed and engaging discussions.

Additional Responsibilities for Interested Students:

  • Assist with guest outreach by drafting interview requests and coordinating scheduling.
  • Write show notes and summaries for each episode.
  • Assist in editing and production (if experienced or willing to learn audio and video editing tools).
  • Promote episodes through social media, newsletters, and partner organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Currently majoring in journalism, communications, political science, media studies, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking on-air and engaging in unscripted discussions.
  • Interest in discussing politics, government, media, and public policy (no expertise required).
  • Basic knowledge of audio and video editing software (preferred, not required).
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Van Buren Media is a strategic communications and public relations company started by Tyler Van Buren, a veteran of Connecticut politics and state government. Tyler served in Connecticut state government for 16 years, including as Director of Communications and chief spokesperson for three statewide officials. He has worked to administer critical state programs, pass historic legislation, advocate for transformative policies, and elect principled candidates. Summer 2025 FOX Internship Program – Sports Production – New York

JOB DESCRIPTION

You will have the opportunity to participate in real-world projects, which provides valuable work experience and leadership skills. This internship will be on-site in New York.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree during the length of the program
  • Current class standing of sophomore, (second-year college student) or above
  • Strong academic record
  • Committed and available to work for the entire length of the program
  • Access to own housing and transportation to/from the assigned internship site
  • Must be able to work on-site in New York, NY

STUDENTS SELECTED TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE INTERVIEW PROCESS:

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the company and sports media industry

STUDENTS ACCEPTED INTO THE SUMMER 2025 PROGRAM:

You will be considered for an internship based on the content of your cover letter, as well as your prior experience and interests, as determined during the recruitment process. Area of placement may include (but are not limited to):

SUMMER 2025 SCHEDULE:

General Application Deadline: Sunday, February 9, 2025

Program Timeline: We will have two summer sessions. Interns will work one of the sessions listed below.

Summer Session 1: Monday, June 2, 2025 – Friday, July 25, 2025

Summer Session 2: Monday, June 16, 2025 – Friday, August 8, 2025

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 32-40 hours per week

Successful students have:

  • The ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interfacing with talent and executives

  • A self-starter attitude and proactive nature
  • Knowledge of software/technical skills applicable to your areas of placement. For example: Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition, iNews, Avid, FinalCut Pro, Dalet
  • Knowledge of and passion for a variety of sports
  • A detail-oriented nature with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

PODCAST PRODUCER, Avon Historical Society, Avon, CT

A volunteer(s) will produce the historical society’s AVON TALKS podcasts about the  people, places and events in Avon’s history. The recording studio is in the Avon History Museum at 6 East Main Street, down one flight of stairs. Convenient parking. Goal is 4-6 podcasts a year. Work at your convenience. Could be team effort with two volunteers.

Use your own laptop; all other equipment is in the studio.  Software will be made available by the Society.  

Tasks: research the topic provided by the Avon Historical Society, interview the guest(s), record the session, edit the content, post on the streaming service.
